The HealthMaster Review & Giveaway
(90 Day H&F Challenge)
The kids and I all stood around the box in amazement when it arrived. Could it really be as big as it looked? It is indeed as big as it seemed. My oldest daughter asked me if it was for a restaurant. I just had to take a picture of my youngest sitting beside it so you can get a good idea of the size for yourself.

I am so excited to be able to tell you about the HealthMaster as a kind of grand finale to our 90 Day Health and Fitness Challenge!

The first thing I did was read the manual because this is a serious looking piece of equipment and I wanted to be sure to put it together correctly. We went through the books that came with the HealthMaster and I had the girls pick out something they wanted to try.

I thought they would go for the Banana Peanut Smoothie but they decided on the Pomegranate Pow which has a pear, kiwi, blueberries, ginger, pomegranate seeds and an apple. We had some ingredients on hand but definitely not pomegranate so we made a trip to the store.

We got to work right away trying to figure out how to get the pomegranate seeds out and into the blender. The pear went in whole, but we did core the apples. We added all the ingredients into the blender and turned it on. It finished so quickly and chopped up the pomegranate seeds with no problem at all.

The fresh smoothie was delicious and both kids enjoyed it. We froze the leftovers and had is as desert a couple of days later.

The wonderful thing about the HealthMaster is how easy it is to work the healthy foods into your diet.

Here are some of the amazing things you can do with your HealthMaster. You can easily chop ingredients for salads, make cheese sauces, dips, nut butters, hummus, ice cream, sorbets and you can even grate cheese! The thing I was the most amazed by is that you can make soup right in the blender! I am not talking about just preparing the ingredients and then transferring it to a pot, I am talking about making the soup from start to steamy finish right in the HealthMaster in about 8 minutes! Imagine fresh hot healthy soup that your family will love in just a matter of minutes!

If you have been following the 90 Day Health Challenge, then you know that I have lost more than 20 lbs. The workouts have been a major part of that, but my husband who has NOT worked out with me at all (well 10 minutes, but then he gave up) has lost about 30 lbs, all from the change in diet. Fresh foods prepared and served right away contain the very best nutrients. I can feel a real difference, when I have some thing that is prepackaged, in the way that I feel after eating. Having a meal or a snack should nourish and recharge your body. When you have a smoothie made from fresh healthy ingredients, you are giving yourself a boost of energy!

Here is Rylee enjoying a smoothie with spinach! She will NEVER eat any veggies, but since I have learned how to add them to juices and smoothies we have made real progress. She is enjoying the Montel Kid Smoothie which also includes grapes, apples, blueberries and water. We were supposed to add a beet, but didn’t have any available. I am sure the beet would have masked the green veggies in here, but she drank it AND enjoyed it even though it was green!

The HealthMaster even replaces 20 different kitchen appliances! Some of them include: Blender, Minichopper, Stick Blender, Snow Cone Maker, Coffee Mill/Grinder, Food Mill, Grinder, Grater and many others. So want to know where to get one?

Buy it: The Montel Williams Living Well HealthMaster can be bought directly on their site for $199.96 and includes 4 recipe books and the Super Slim Me Eating Plan. (www.myhealthmaster.com)

Apple Picking Tips

One of the most popular Fall activities is apple picking. You go with friends and family to a local apple orchard and come home with bags of apples. Wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy the apples right at the orchard? A nice Fall afternoon picnic. Here’s how you can do it.

Pack your car with everything you will need. A foldable table and chairs or blanket to lay on the ground, a cooler filled with juice and water, a bag of mixed greens to make a salad and knives to slice your apples.

When you go apple picking, you want to select firm, bruise-free apples. The color of apples vary so the best way to make sure they are ripe is by seeing if they are crisp and firm. The farmer at the apple orchard can tell you how to best pick their specific apples. To help apples last longer, try picking them with the stem still attached. If the apples fall to the ground, it’s okay to still take them as long as they are not bruised.

For kids, it’s easiest to pick apples off dwarf trees because they are lower to the ground. Apple picking is a great activity to teach your kids about the health benefits of apples. This is one family outing your kids will love.

Here are some of the don’ts of apple picking. Do not throw the apples into your basket. They can bruise. Do not wash apples until you are about to eat them. This prevents spoilage. Do not leave apples to hot temperatures.

However, DO enjoy an apple inspired picnic right at the orchard. Many orchards have enough space and allow guests to have a picnic right there with their fresh apples. Eating apples when they are freshly picked off the tree is very healthy. This is when the apple has the most nutritional value.

Make the most of your apple-picking event. Bring the kids, go with good friends, and spend the day at your favorite apple orchard.

Pumpkin Picking Fun

There’s nothing better than spending a cool, crisp Sunday afternoon pumpkin picking at your favorite pumpkin patch. But, you have to make sure you experience everything at the pumpkin-picking patch. We ventured out to show you how to pumpkin pick the right way!

An afternoon spent at Conklin Farms U-Pick in Montville, NJ was well worth the experience. Six friends left their husbands and kids at home to enjoy a day in the Autumn sun, picking pumpkins to carve, cook with and paint. We were lucky to arrive and not be overwhelmed by too many people. We had the best of the Fall harvest available to us. Plan your pumpkin-picking day so you can go with you family or friends during a weekday afternoon. If not, go earlier enough in the day during the weekend. Don’t wait until the last minute or all the good pumpkins will be gone.

If available, grab a wheel barrel to carry your pumpkins. As soon as we got into Conklin Farms that was the first thing we did. Next, we scoped out the place. We saw all different species of pumpkins, apples, goats, rabbits, hayrides, and kids painting pumpkins. We decided to start off with everything else but pumpkin picking. We visited Bunnyville, watched the goats play, poked our heads through cute cutout posters and learned what each pumpkin species is good for.

Then it came down to do what we came there to do. Pick some pumpkins. When you go pumpkin picking, you need to know what size and type of pumpkin you want. If it’s for carving, you may want to pick a big one with enough room to carve. Small ones are good to paint on for kids. Also, ask the people who own the patch about which pumpkins are best for cooking or baking. Sometimes the least pretty pumpkin is the most sweet.

Make sure you complete the day with a haunted hayride. It wouldn’t be Halloween without a little fright. Pumpkin picking is a fun experience for adults, teens and kids. Go with your family or take a break from the kids and go with friends. Either way, it’s definitely a Fall activity everyone should do. Take the pumpkins home and create easy and healthy recipes with your Health Master.
